Retrospect: A Mix for Hourglass [Part III]

Hey peeps! This is the third disc in the four disc drama that is Retrospect: A Mix for Hourglass. All songs are in mp3 format, and the zip is from sendspace. To download from sendspace scroll down to the bottom of the sendspace page and the link will be at the bottom. If there are any problems shout out and I'll do my best to fix them. Keep your eyes out for the two discs as I post them. I can't post it all as one big giant thing because of bandwich issues or some such thing.

Oh, and go read Hourglass.

NOTE: The comments inside the brackets are Sam's, the one's that aren't are mine.

Hugs,

Cal.

Part I and II are here and here.

[FULL ZIP]

1. The Rock – Hans Zimmer [box link]

[Instrumental]

Cause every music mix needs a feisty instrumental.

2. In This Hole – Cat Power [box link]

Where should I hang my head?

Where would you like for me

To hang my head?

Lieutenant and Jeremy claimed this as their song apparently.

3. Holy Roller Novocaine – Kings of Leon [box link]

Don't you worry baby

You won't feel a thing

Close your eyes

Holy Roller Novocaine.

Perhaps a Mr. Smart song, it makes me think of [BIPOLARITY] one of the shorts Sam posted.

Sam wrote:Smart’s hands began to shake, so violently that he couldn't bring himself to clean up the last of it. And so he simply sat there, kneeling, looking down at the floorboards whilst Adelais bled.

I love this song and this band.

:D

4. Intervention – the Arcade Fire [box link]

The king's taken back the thrown

The useless seed is sewn

Then they say they're cutting off the phone

We'll tell them we're not home

No place to hide

You're fighting as a solider on their side

You're still a soldier in your minds

But nothing's on the line.

[Über Luke and Jeremy.]

5. Monster – Lovedrug [box link]

Careful, the monster is round that corner

And he’s waiting for blood tonight

He knows that you might fight back

Torture.

6. The Girl Who Falls Down Stairs – Tom McRae [box link]

And I see myself

Turn into something else

Turn into someone else

For a while

And I know I'm right

Running into this night

Running another dream to the ground.

7. The Laws Have Changed – The New Pornographers [box link]

It was crime at the time

but the laws, we changed 'em

though the hero for hire's…

For the boys and girls of Hourglass. [Or for the Hourglass themselves- rather a confusing lot.]

8. Broken Boy Soldier – the Raconteurs [box link]

Well I'm child and man and child again.

The toy, broken boy soldier.

[I’m morbid and quite possibly a sadist, character-wise, and so I enjoy the idea of broken people. A theme, really.]

9. Set the Fire to the Third Bar – Snow Patrol ft. Martha Wainwright [box link]

I find the map and draw a straight line

Over rivers, farms, and state lines

The distance from A to where you'd 'B'

It's only finger-lengths that I see

I touch the place where I'd find your face

My fingers in creases of distant dark places

10. I Ain't Scared of Lightning – Tom McRae [box link]

I ain’t scared of lightning, come on and do your worst.

If they gave degrees for cheating destiny then man I got a first.

Luke.

11. Battleships – Travis [box link]

We’re battleships, driftin’ in an alley river

Takin’ hits, sinking it’s now or never.

12. Devil's Waitin – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club [box link]

Out on the corner with cast iron blood

10,000 more with hearts on their own

the say I might die…

13. One Beat – Sleater-Kinney [box link]

Could I turn this place all upside down

and shake you and your fossils out…

14. Carrion – British Sea Power [box link]

Oh the heavy water, how it enfolds!

The salt, the spray, the gorgeous undertow.

Always, always, always the sea,

Brilliantine mortality...

15. Love Is A Deserter – the Kills [box link]

Get the guns out. Your love is a deserter.

[Way too literal. But then again, isn’t that the point?]

16. Girl Sailor – the Shins [box link]

You've won one too many fights,

wearing many hats every time,

but you won’t win here tonight.

[So Lieutenant.]

17. Seeing Things – Nocturne [box link]

Can you tell me the way to go

I feel the time slipping away

Can you tell me the way to go

Which way to the end?

18. One Crowded Hour – Augie March [box link]

If love is a bolt from the blue,

Then what is that bolt but a glorified screw?

[Possibly symbolic for Lieutenant and Adelais’ “romance”.]

19. Windy – Page France [box link]

I believe in kings and queens

and everything stuck in between.

But please if you must take a peek

don’t spoil for me my mystery.

I always thought of this as a Luke and Jeremy song. Possibly for this refrain right here: “Remind me who I am, and what you are / 'Cause when our eyes close we're the same”.

20. Travelling with Charley – the Cardigans [box link]

Travelling with Charley

My detective darling.

For some odd reason this song makes me think of Matthias.

Enjoy!

Da, Holly Roller Novacaine = Awesome.

Though, it sort of fits both of them. Ooer. Another grand mix, Cal. ^_^ I owe you majorly...

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into… the Twilight Zone.
